A/C Specialists??
« on: July 25, 2007, 02:49:13 »
Can anyone recommend a good A/C specialist in or around Northampton to have a look at the A/C system on my P38??

Basically the usual symptoms of not blowing any cold air etc etc.  Problem is system is fully charged, no leaks, engine management ECU is giving permission for the compressor to run but the compressor wont engage.  Compressor is new and did work briefly for around 20 mins but not again since.

Really need someone who has dealt with Range Rovers before to have a look.  Anyone have any suggestions??

Thanks
-Wills :)

Wills,

There is a place just off Wellingborough Road in Northampton that does the work for our local LR dealer, Its on the junction of St Edmunds Rd and Victoria Rd.

Unfortunately, I can't remember the name of the company but Thrasher knows it well, no doubt he'll be along soon and will be able to shed some light on it for you.

Thanks for the reply Thrasher and thanks again to Frankie for the reply.  I found the place fine and realised I had actually gone past it many times before without knowing.

Anyway, went in and had a chat and waited an hour while they took a look at it for me.  End result is the new compressor is broken.  Well the clutch doesnt engage when power is put to it, whether this is just a problem with the clutch or something deeper inside the compressor they didnt know as they didnt go that far into disassembly.

Not only that the compressor isnt receiving any voltage anyway, not even at the tri pressure switch which controls the voltage TO the compressor.  So im not sure where to go next, the compressor is still under warranty as its new so I shall have the garage that fitted it remove it and either get a refund OR get them to fit a new one but not charge the system and have the guys I saw this afternoon sort it out.

The guys down at Automotive Cooling Services certainly seemed to know what they were talking about and were really helpful so I can certainly say they know their stuff and would recommend them.
