hi guys...ive got a long winded post ongoing on another forum but thought i'd try here for some more input.....i drowned my 110 in a bombhole last weekend and by the time i got it out the engine had died...ive checked all the air hoses from the snorkel back and have found a hole and thought that was the reason for the turbo's self distruction, but ive just had a call from the company who are rebuilding the turbo and they said it looked like the turbo died from oil starvation..... now is this because the engine got very very cold and the oil got too thick or am i likely to have more problems......my dash lights dont work so i'm not sure how i can test the oil pump is working correctly so any ideas/help would be greatly appreciated!!

You could fit a mechanical (or electrical) oil pressure gauge in the engine, replacing the oil pressure switch
Or take the oil pump out and check the tolerances on the gearing
Another one would to see if the pump is pumping oil through the turbo feed pipe (pop the injectors out, or glow plugs, and turn by hand)
Not really took one of these apart but those are two basic methods

Not every problem can be solved with duct tape, and it's exactly for those situations we have WD 40

cheers......as the turbo isnt back on yet (ive taken the pipework to and from the turbo and the inlet pipe was pretty gunged up) and the pipework is all off can i just handcrank it and expect an oil flow through the pipe to hole to the turbo? theres no electrics connected either at the mo. how fast would i have to crank it? can i do it without removing the plug (ive got the stop solenoid disconnected too)? and i know this is stupid....but as i look at the pulley i will be cranking it on, from the front of the engine, is it clockwise or anti clock wise? oh and at the mo its sat with 6ltrs of clean oil in the sump.

engine turns over clockwise viewing from t/belt end
if you got the started connected up, disconnect the fuel stop and wang it over off starter as you'll be there for years hand cranking
so when it inhaled water, did it cut the engine i.e hydraulic it ?
what revs was it doing when it died ?
your bound to have a bent rod or 2 if it locked, even it idle
turbo, was it starvation or contamination ?
you dont no whats happend it its previous life ( assuming your one of a few owners)
a turbo will still go if its been run out of oil, ( not very well) but it will, aslong as it didnt damage the bearings too much as so the turbine shaft floats around and ovals the seals

well the turbo is totally K.N.ackered and is in being rebuilt....i thought it went bang due to contamination but the turbo ppl said it may of been due to starvation......thats why ive done an oil change and removed all the pipework and changed the oil out....i was just looking to see if i can crank it with everything removed safely and see if i get oil spurting out the turbo feed pipe......if i do crank it....what sort of pressure should i get out?
