Calmini Vitara rear diff mount/bracket broken
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:41:21 »
Following a trip to Devils Pit yesterday, we got as far as the Duxford roundabout when my rear end decided to pull a wobbly

The "A" arm from the chassis to the top of the diff has a swivel mount.  This mount stripped it's threads and let go!!  Leaving the axle to roll fowards!!

I managed to bodge it back together to get home :)

I understand this is yet another weak point in the Calmini set up and some people have modded this "swivel joint" mounting? ? ?

Does anyone have any photos of the mod please?

Cheers :)

Sorry for the confusion whatmot, it must have been how I worded it - "Following a trip to Devils Pit yesterday............."  maybe I should have said "on the way back at Duxford roundabout............."

Anyway we had a good day at the Pit (although it was a bit dry) :)

Any photos of this mod would be excellent - cheers :)

Cheers for stopping  :P  :)  (kidding)  We had plenty of people bib and wave but the only person to stop was a copper     He was a nice guy and only looking out for our safety  :)

@ Steve ( V8 ) - yes mate - bust again.  Hang on, I've only broken it once before.............

We managed to bodge it together with some sticky back plastic and a washing up bottle

Spot on Simon - the thread on the rose joint gave out completely  :(

How do I get in touch with Nick?  It's been such a long time since I last saw him............. (Tong 2002/3 possibly   )

I was planning on getting the existing rose-joint, cleaning off the remaining threads, cleaning out the rotten remaining threads in the "A" bar, making the rose-joint longer and welding it up from both ends of the "A" bar (if you can follow me?)

What do you think - this is what had been done on another truck I looked at.

Oh, and turning the bracket on the diff round to face the other way too, to get the correct angle on the prop...........

what do you think? :)

The threads on both the rose joint and the "A" bar have been stripped.

I'll have to mod it and weld it.  It's either that or wait for Calmini to send me a new "A" bar..........................................  I'll update you sometime after Christmas
