What engine is fitted?  Cambelts are only on the TDi engines (and maybe the VM?).  Rover V8s have timing chains.

Spray a drop of WD 40 onto the belts if screeching stops its worn/loose belt. If it continues its something else.

Don't tell me, the PAS sometimes feels a bit 'jolty' or goes stiff, the rev counter drops sometimes and the belts are screeching.  Time for a new PAS belt, they are a PITA when they start to slip.

Try putting washinfg up liquid on the belts, if this does not effect it then look at your water pump.
