Yours is a 300tdi isnt it? Is that a bigger job than a 200?. A local mobile mechanic did mine, I will get you his number if you want. I know him so will find out what he would charge someone else. I would guess around the £80 mark for labour. I got the kit with rollers / tensioners and a water pump as well as there was a tiny bit of play in mine. Having said that the bits must come to about £80 (i cant remember exactly, ordered them weeks before) + water pump. £160 for a dealer mechanic sounds quite reasonable.
I was very impressed with the job he did though, came back with a list of little thngs he noticed that I may want to do in the future. He also did my missus V6 vectra that nobody really wanted to do.
Our local dealers (who have just changed hands again) are crap, the kit I bought came without water pump or timing cover gasket. I tried to order the gaskets from the dealers, had the pump one in stock for a quid. The other one he didnt have and said he could only get me a pack of 10 :o
He wasnt prepared to keep 9 in stock, says they never sell 200tdi stuff anymore. I deal with ford / vauxhall / nissan / fiat parts departments every day and have never come across that before. I rang the other day for a timing belt for a 1.8 freelander (hardly rare) and they needed 4 days to get me the belt. Every motor factors in the damn country could get me one quicker than that.
I hate main stealers.
