Gearbox Noise
MuckingFuddy:
its an LT77 5 speed box, i have used dextron 2 ATF.
The noise started when after some muddy water wading, up to te vents in it.
Xtremeteam:
was the oil contaminated when u dropped it out?
might want to try some dexron 3 as this is the oil that helps the r380's when they go a bit stiff or noisy
hobbit:
Was there much in the way of deposits in the drain plug, I'm presuming its got a magnet on it
ie, fine filings, or lumpy bits
Also from what I've read there are/is a breather on the top of the gearbox, depending on how long you were in the water, it may have drawn in water, as the gearbox was cooled down by the water
Is the whining noise from the box or diffs?
MuckingFuddy:
The oil looked like it was mixed with water (you know all creamy) so i would say it was contaminated :? . Do you think it will get better after a bit of a run? ive only been around the block so far (Less than a mile).
I sure its coming from the box and not the diffs but without doing an Indiana Jones  i could not be too sure. the nly oil i have not changed is the engine oil as it looks ok.
hobbit:
You could flush the oil out of the box and refill, that will take out a bit more of the muck, if the engine is the same colour, do an oil and filter change straight away, run it up, then same again, use cheap thin oil, just to flush it out, unless you have a gallon of flusing oil
Managed to mess up my l/w engine it ingested sandy water, ground the oil pump like hell, no pressure, after changing the shells and another oil pump, it had oil pressure, but is a right bucket of bolts when starting up from cold, until the oil is pumped round the engine. Got to transplant another enigne in it now
