chattering noise in neutral?

Disco Inferno:
I have a chattering noise coming from the transmission of my disco whilst in neutral, it only occurs at very low revs thoug (tickover) and when the clutch pedal is up, if i raise the revs slightly or depress the clutch the noise goes. There is a slight vibration in the clutch pedal,

Could this be the clutch fork on the way out or is it more likely to be the bearbox?

This might not be of any help, but I had the same on a 94 200 TDi... it was there for the three years I owned the car, and I must have put 100k miles on the clock in it.

Thrust bearing?

Probably not the fork - when this fails there is normally no warning then the pedal goes to the floor.

Sounds like a clutch release bearing to me.
