bouncy rev counter??

Going a little quick out the works gates i suddenly noticed my rev counter haveing a fit-bouncing from about 1000 too 4000..ant ideas

Its a 300 tdi auto and ive just changed the speed transducer(secondhand)--no complaints so far

I had a similar thing happen and it turned out to be a small wire off the back of the altenator.  A new connector crimped on, and bob a job..

I had the same at the may day mud fest .. turned out the alternator was faulty , had it rewound
so many hills , so little time ....

Had the same with mine, was the brush pack on the alternator worn out.
