On the top mount you should tighten the nut up fully, it seats onto a shank on the mounting bolt.  Make sure the washer is the right way round, it is convex on one side.

RRB having spoke to previous owner this week its got standard springs fitted with es3000 +2's procomps
which way shud the funny washer be then? im puttin it inwards?

Range Rover Blues:
flat face outwards, convex face in.  There should be an identical washer on the inside too, you may not realise it isn't part of the shock mount though.
