I had a 2005 Ranger for a couple of years when I lived in the UK. I loved it, but it had it's minus points.
The rear seats are too cramped for normal people - too upright. The engine couldn't pull the skin off a
rice pudding, so progress is leisurely and a bit noisy. The engine is a bit agricultural. Rides like a bouncy
castle due to 1 ton rear springs. Very reliable, however, and got 31mpg regardless of how it was driven.
Wish I'd have got a single cab though - there's really not much room in the bed of a compact double cab.
If I were buying one now, it would probably be a GMC Sierra HD with a Duramax V8 diesel.

You might want to avoid the D22, it's engine tends to destroy itself.

Only the post-2002 models with the Renault engine (YT25 ?)

I have a 51 plate Nissan engined one (TD25) and it has done 130k miles. No problems, just service parts and a set of tyres.

I would recommend them. Not the fastest on the planet, but hasn't let me down and did 16k miles last year.

I have a 56 plate new shape Ranger. I love it lots. Goes like stink, feels most modern inside,
