disco 300tdi 1998
« on: September 26, 2010, 16:56:52 »
hi all, iv got a problem with the above landy, it starts fine ticks over fine but when the revs go between 1500 and 2500 rpm its gets a slight miss fire, barely noticeable but it starts smoking quite badly but after 2500 it runs smoothly and smoke free, any ideas?...its had fresh fuel in, sedimenter cleaned, intercooler cleaned inside and out, new pipes, new fuel filter, new lift pump , ive changed the injectors,  new air filter and ive removed the egr valve, performance wise it seems a bit sluggish but nothing major. its done 131k and not a jap import. im running out of ideas now, lol. thanks in advance

What colour smoke ?

Check the pipes on top of the fuel tank, under the inspection hatch in the boot floor.
They perish( rubber) and\or corrode ( steel pick up ) and let air in which can cause some of your symptoms.

hi, i would say greyish/blueish smoke and smells oily rather then unburnt fuel, it starts and ticks over fine with no problems and i would have thought if a leak in the fuel pipe was present it would be hard to start, also i forgot to mention the sedimenter was about a third full with water and gritty dirt . i will go and check the pipes on the tank though, thanks for your input

Sounds like an injector fault to me. Get them checked at your local diesel specialist,

well the disco had a recent cam belt change (previous owner) and the guy who did it put it on 3 or 4 teeth out and the pump timing was miles out aswell. i still cant belive it ran at all. i wouldnt even chance turning an engine over that far out but there you go. thanks to those that had some input
