Later 300 TDi has EDC, elcetronic deisel control and have 1 very expensive injector.  Then they all have Exhaust Gas Recirculation which can just be left unconnected.

Should do, the engine is totaly mechanical.  Just not sure how EDC deals with faults and if it has a warning lamp, but the engine won't care.

There is a warning lamp.

300 and 200 sit in totally different positions (least on a defender) how does that bode for a discovery?

Engine mounts would need to be cut off the donor chassis and welded onto the 300 chassis, the position is pretty much the same as long as you get the mounts in the right place!

Can you bolt the engine mounts form a 300 onto the 200 block?

Pretty sure they are different as when we put a 200 into a 300 @ Solihullmicks place & think he would have done that rather than rewelding the mounts, but thats not such a bad job really as long as you make sure they are welded in the correct place.
If you PM Mick he'll know for certain.

I've done it.... that's what's in my disco right now.

Engine mounts are different (both a different type & a different location - the turbo moved 200->300, and the other engine mount is in the wrong place, whichever way you go.) - so you need a pair of 200tdi mounts from somewhere.

The radiator & Intercooler are different, so both need swapped

The power-steering pump is different, so you need to keep the 200tdi one - which means you need to replace the pump->steering relay pipe (the 300tdi one isn't long enough)

You can swap the pulley on the 300tdi alternator, and mount it to the 200 engine.

There is extra wiring which you can lose, but none you need to bodge in.

You need a 200tdi exhaust system, I'm using the version from the early 200tdi - others may fit.

Oh - and the water temperature-sender is different! - the dash gauge does not match the 200 sender unit at all.
I ended up drilling out a 200tdi one, and tapping the brass body to take a 300tdi sender... and you need to cut the top off the brass plug so the new sender unit actually sits in the water-flow :)

yep - you simply run the rubber pipes from the top of the head to the pipes in the bulkhead :)
