Ah, the joys of youth

The other one to try is Adrian Flux, if you haven't already.

I've heard that some insurers are frantically trying to get rid of people they consider a high risk, usually by loading their premium to a ridiculous level come renewal time.

I'm with Adrian Flux, no complaints, mods declared, have parents down as named drivers and 3rd party cover to drive other vehicles. I forget the exact premium but it was similar to muddyjames' quote.

The greenlane cover struck me as a bit of a cheek - you're covered for lanes anyway, they're roads!

Insurers definitely abuse the fact that it's a legal requirement.

policy small print will say something like ' highways only not byways' BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT that just means you're car is not fully covered on a greenlane but you are still covered to the legal minimum of 3rd party as all polices have the words "nothing within this policy effects the right of a 3rd party to make a claim" that's law and they can't riggle out of it.  So, as long as your happy with taking the cost of any damage whilst greenlaning to own vehicle (and own body) you do not need the greenlane cover as your still legally insured and others can claim against you (including your passengers).

first of all rob i would have asked for a reason why the huge jump  , as with some of these automated insurers the policy starts afresh each year so you acordind to a computer somwhere are new buisness . as i had it a few years ago mine went up by over 700 quid when i asked i was told " oh sorry its been a error in the data input then it came back as 95 quid less than the year before . so always check and ask why as it could be a error like mine or as a freind found out some migrant had given his details at a smash not fun had to prove he was inocent .
As a youth I could run up and down stairs all day now I'm older it takes me all day just to walk upstairs

True, I have heard a few tales of people enquiring why their insurance had gone up vertically, mentioning that they were therefore going to switch, and as if by magic being given a more reasonable quote!

I went to Peter Best, in the Land Rover magazines, and have found very reasonable.

Insurance companies are businesses. They are there to make a profit for the shareholders. The difference is that their products, in cases like car cover, are compulsory.

aye its a rip off, theyve got it sussed here in sweden its the vehicle thats insured for any driver not like there its the driver  if the driver is under 25 than you have to tell them than you pay a little extra there is also no points system if you get caught doing something like excessive speed thenyou will get a fine then if its a scary speed you may lose your licence for a few weeks, you have the same sort of cover here you get  full ,half insurance, third party etc ,i was paying about

Is Sweden the place where if you're caught doing something silly they can impound your car for 24 hours?  :police:

Should do it over here, maybe if Mr. Salesrep lost his car for 24 hours he wouldn't sit up the a*se of someone doing 70mph trying to bully them out of the way because of the meeting he's late for.
