Transfer box front output bearing.

Wanderer:
Anyone done the front bearing on the transfer box?
It looks like mine has now got some play in it which is damaging the front seal.

I've got the propshaft off. The flange is off and I've now got access to the bearing.

Before I attack it like a whirling dervish, is it easy to get out? Is there a technique? Should it come out easily?
Does it need a special tool?

TIA

Ed

Budgie:
Someone called Brian Jackson has done a "How to" on Disco Web for the transfer case front bearing, comes with nice photos as well!  :D

Hi Wanderer.....Could you let me know how you get on if you use this technique, as I am thinking of doing my bearing as well.................Thanks Phill

Wanderer:
Thanks for the link Budgie.
Well so far I'm sat at the bit where the circlip is out but struggling to get any movement on the bearing.
I will conquer it.

Wanderer:
Does the bearing normally get inserted with the box split?
I can't see any way of getting the bearing out. It looks as though the one in the pictures is just a standard bearing whereas the one in mine has an extra "guard" to keep the balls seperated. This "guard" stops you from getting anything in behind the bearing to pull it.

Given the description on Discoweb is it normally a box out job?
