Diff oil leaking from rear wheel?
MattDilley:
Hi,
I've come to move the disco tonight, and found a nice puddle of diff oil on the driveway.
Any ideas/advice??
Thanks matt
ChrisW70:
Diff breather blocked, pressurising and pushing the air/oil out thro the hub seal, possible cause.
ukmudmaster:
Or, like mine, bearing collapsed and chewed away at the seal !!
Check the breather pipes first,
Dave
gingernutsv8:
try the stub axle seal as i have just done mine after doing the bearings and seals

you will fined there is free play in your bearing alowing the diff oil to seap past into the hub. the diff oil has probly washed most of your grease away from the bearing but as its been lubricated by diff oil it should still be useable. compleately strip it down and clean evrything with wd40 or similer, wash your bearings and give them a good clean if they are moving freely and smooth and look shiny I would still use them, give them a good packing with fresh grease. if the rollers in the bearing are dented and rusty scrap them. surprising how many I know scrap bearings just becase of a bit of play. check the bearing seal at the back this should have a smooth edge to it that sits flush up against your stub axle, if cracked or warped this will need replacing. when all back together do the hub nut as tight as you can get it then just undo it a bit. spin the brake disk for smoothness and rock it for free play.. if all thats ok you will need to clean of your pads and caliper no dout.
