AFAIK 245/75 R16 are the largest that will fit without a lift, and you'll still need to trim a little bit of bodywork off (where the rear quarter panels curve underneath - you take a triangular-shaped bit of metal off here to give the extra clearance). I want to fit Kumho KL71s in that size at some point, the snag is that I'll need five which is a fair amount of cash to find in one go...
Different manufacturers seem to have different concepts of tyre sizes. I know I have a 235/70 R16 road tyre here (Kumho something-or-other, it's a spare spare so I just asked for the cheapest) and it's noticeably smaller than my Insa Dakars in the same size. I often suspect that those running 235/85 R16 on new springs are using something fairly mild, whereas if they tried to fit a more aggressive pattern then the tyres would rub.
Don't buy remoulds. That was how I ended up with a spare spare, after having two Insa Turbo tyres fail within six months of fitting them and needing a spare to run around with while I waited for a replacement on both occasions. All credit to Paddock, they replaced them with no fuss. I just wish the product was up to the same standard!

here are my 265/75/16 insa turbo dakars. never any trouble with these or the other 3 sets i have had.....

oh and don't assume you need to cut up your arches to fit 31 inch tyres, just be prudent when it comes to width as because my tyres are thin they only need the barest outward pressure on the rear wing corners to not touch.

Ive got a 300tdi lifted 2" with 235/70/16 insa saharas and they just rub the outer body work when shes all tucked up... have not trimmed anything.... think i have a picture somewhere.
