Of course you could always tell the truth, saying that you thought it was ok to take it down, as you weren't aware there was a preservation order on it.

From personal experience, I'd much rather someone was honest and open with me, rather than try to bullshot their way out, as the truth does come out in the end.

my other half got in some bother after a night in the woods ( you know what i meen ) she was getting a stabbing pain in her butt , so on inspection i found a thorn that just wouldnt bugge so off to the doctors he has a look and gets straight on the phone i said it dont need a second opinion , he said it wasnt he had to get permision to remove timber from a recreational area :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:

I've not heard anything upto now so I'm thinkin it's a good sign or there building a case and are goin to pick me up in a taxi with blue flashing lights on lol

I think something like this would probably work.....

'The tree was damaged/suffering from rot/insert other plausible reason and in my duty as the landowner I had to make the tree safe, my only means of doing so was to remove it. I had tried to contact the necessary authorities but had no joy- so I felt it was duty of care to deal with it as quickly and effectively as possible'........
