Cutting a tree down

Friday night I got home and started cutting this tree down about 40ft high (I looked at it and thought it's only a over sized bush) so I got the big ladder climbed up it with the chain saw and started trimmin away about 3 hours later and most of the branches cut off and I'm half way through the trunk a local fake police come up n ask me do I have permition to cut it down I looked at him n said with a stright serious face " do I need permition to cut it down cuz it's only a over grown bush " he went crazy at me saying it's about a hundred year old tree so he goes n I carry on thinkin it's not safe with half the trunk cut so just carry on then the day after I did 4 trips to the tip with the big trailer men at tip were goin nuts as I filled one of there big skips up on my own but they could not stop me as I had permit

My question is will I get told off or what??

did it have a preservation order on it?

You are now apparently supposed to have permission to cut down a tree with a larger diameter at the bas the 12"
DOnt know where to get the opermission from but this is what i have heard.......oh well

The tree were on my land and it were about 24 inch across at the bottom
my way of lookin is I can't pit it back up can I and I have disposed of it by the correct means

Lol up here you can cut down what you want, we took down a tree that was 4ft thick at the end of last year. It was huge. Right beside the main road, church etc and not one complaint.

Dont actually know if it was illegal or not, but like i said nobody was bothered.
