I saw someone on the Belgium National last year who had done that and instead of the springs dislocating at the top when it was at full articulation, he had broken both lower spring retaining bars and the rear springs were dangerously close to coming off the plate on the axle and dropping the vehicles chassis onto the axle.

So make sure thoughs little plates, that secure the spring at the bottom, are strong enough to hold the full weight the axle! It's no fun trying to  replace rear springs in the middle of an off-road course!!

Was that on the Trails course on Sunday, there was a Rangie in real trouble with his rear springs? Took him ages to get everything straight again and after all he was only doing 0.005 mph over a double hump.

Budgie:
Na, this was a Disco.
I think he said one side had gone in the early part of the course and the other side went on the second from last section.
He was lucky, the springs didn't actually come off the axle, but were very close!
He pulled out of the course after second side went, just incase!!

I poped them on the first day so the second day I had some luverlyjubberly clips on them . 8)

I've heard of the bottom bars bending too so I'm making some stronger ones at work this week  :D

Thanks to all in my group on the first day as they stopped with me on the side of the road and helped put the springs back wouldn't have got far on my own as my jack packed up. :D
