a tacho question for hgv drivers.

it all depends what heads fitted to the lorry, youll get away with the 125kph ones in most cases but if youve got the wrong card in and get pulled you can get done for it.... but if the truth be told ive never needed a spare box, theres always a pack either in the transport office or normally in the cab of whatever your driving...its up to the company to supply the cards anyway.

Sider:
James, the operator HAS to provide you enough discs to last the journey, plus at least one spare. I wouldn't bother buying them. Specially since more companies are renewing their fleet: in a couple of years you will struggle to find an analog tacho.

muddyjames:
I have had a digi card for years, so I'm not worried about that. I just want to get myself covered for anything that may happen now it seems I am slowly but surely getting myself out into the real hgv world instead of these tacho exempt bin lorries. Tacho exempt is great but I want to move on from bin wagons. see my other thread for ereason why! lol

ive only been driving hgvs for 12 years so im still classed as a young pup by most of the other drivers but the only time ive ever had to scrabble around and borrow tachos from other drivers is when ive been to lazy to get a box from the ofice the day before! most hauliers are more than happy to give you a box on your first day..ive even turned up as an agency driver and the tacho was filled out with the day, reg no, location and mileage and sitting on a peg with the keys..

the only problem with going out into the "real world of hgv" is staying away from the transport cafes!

Oh, that is very easy for me to keep away. I am far too tight to spend money in them when I can makemyself a decent packed lunch for a 5th of the price! :-)
