Heater, what heater?

(1/2) > >>

japsa:
My 200 LWB has done me well during the past 6 years and the usual lack of cab heating has been bearable.Though I've been fitting a winter thermostat for the last few it's not enough. The temp guage goes most of the way through the white band as apposed to just into it with normal stat. (I find it also performs better when hotter) This allows some heat to be blown about but my ageing bones need more.Mine is usualy fitted with  a truck cab. Any suggestions please.
ps is it  a good idea to go for an electric fan and ditch the viscous.

Tiki Al:
i just stuffed a bit of cardboard in front of the rad for when it's cold, worked wonders and it's easy to remove when it warms up. It turned my cool breeze of a heater into a raging inferno as the temp got to a normal operating temperature ( but not overheating )

Have you flushed the system, especially the heater matrix, probably the first thing to do.
I recently adjusted the three heater cables and found that made quite a difference, especially as two were incorrectly swapped by thje previous owner!
Lots of folks remove the viscous fan, but if you use your truck at low speeds and highish engine revs the advantage of the intercooler will be compromised, don't forget the fan draws air through that as well as the radiator.  I guess it might be worth checking that the VF is working correctly.
My 90 CSW iwas fine during the last cold spell with its VF - not as good as a modern car but ok - I think the major drawback to the heater system is the method of getting the warm air into the cab as it comes from the heater matrix into the lower part of the dash which is a large box section and acts like a big heat sink.  I wondered about doing some ducting in there next time I have it apart - anyone done this or something like it?

Fit an eberspacher diesel burning cabin furnace, be forever toasty and never fear the cold again   I got a 3200W one and it gets my 110 from sub zero to t-shirt conditions in 15min also cooks my dogs till their eyes balls shrivel and drys out my wet gear.

Pah! Call yourselves Land Rover drivers??! Next you'll be wanting heated seats and steering wheels
