a frame ball joint replacement
muddymud:
8-[ i need to do mine tomorrow for the mot on Friday! i may ask if the garage could do it for me be for the mot, save me the problem. i thought it was an easy job as well. :(
BobtailBogey:
Yeah ask them if its in already would save you a lot of hassle :)
muddymud:
well they have had my rrc a day and a half and they moved the ball joint about 3mm! I'm really annoyed tho i should be out offroading and they still haven't got the ball joint out. :'(
Range Rover Blues:
But if they can't shift it, where would you be on your own?
I've seen these take so much heat it damaged the axle bracket.
Nick4X4:
Why the heat boys???
you should not need any heat!!!
a good 2lb knocking stick hit just in the right place and it will fly out of the axle.... please note do not hit the ball joint it self to get it out of the axle casing ;)
hit it just on the casing it self just where it goes in to the casing and the shock will remove it, the problem you will have is getting it out of the holder it self once it is removed.
i use a press to do them, you cut off the lugs iver side and then press the center out.
then i press the new one in, this is done by lining up the bolt holes and using a tube over the ball joint it self and pressing down.
i think to do it with out a press is a bit hard so maybe run it down to a workshop that has one and give them some beer tokens to do that bit for you ;)
i always now have one on the shelf ready to go just in case i have not time to do it and can just do an exchange for them....
