a frame ball joint replacement
JIMBOBLY:
how are we all doin?im hearing a knockin noise from the back axle on my rangie,im gonna have a good look tommorow, but im almost certain, its the a frame ball joint,im a mechanic by trade, but ive never done one,do i need gas to heat it up to get it out, just wondering how some of you would tackle it,cheers jim.
Tel:
its a right pig to do defently get it warm
i ended up using longer bolts to pull it into place we had to press the last one out
being a mechanic by trade im sure it wont be anything you havent come across before pig of job wise
take the whole a frame off will be much easier for you and also soak in wd40 for a while will help you aswell
the bolts that hold the a frame to the chassis are huge so are bloody tight too took 2 of us to get mine undone on a big bar and im a 17st chunk
crazymac:
I must admit, mine was easy!!
Granted I did have my rear floor out at the time! So access was dead easy which made the job so much easier.
Nothing more to add about how to go about it though.
BobtailBogey:
Its a pain to get it out of the axle as its been there for soo long i used a 6ft solid bar to prize it against the axle casing and hitting the hell out of it with a huge sledge...
i need to get the A-frame off again as i think the bushes are very warn...
Easy way to check if your ball joint is going jack up 1 rear wheel and leave handbrake on and firmly spin the wheel forwards and backwards and see if your axle actually pivots on the joint... it should stay solid but if warn then it will move very niticably.
JIMBOBLY:
well thankya boys for the info, good of ya to reply, think im gonna tackle it at the weekend, cheers
