Rear Work Lamp on D2?
Landyrover:
Greetings All...
Now that the long nights and bad weather are with us I miss the rear work lamp I had on my Defender. I don't have a roof rack on the D2, so is it possible to mount a lamp somewhere high up on the back with a switch inside? If so, any recommendations as to what to get?
Cheers,
Nick

Get a cb aerial gutter mount from Thunderpole, about a fiver with no lead etc. You can bolt any lamp you like through this then. If you go for a spot light type lamp use one with a fog light lens so it diffuses the light rather than having a beam pattern.
Wiring can tuck in through the back door and into the rear quarter, just a case of running a live feed from front to back then (fuses, relays etc. etc.)
I did at one point have mine set up on a two-way and off switch with the common out to the light, one feed in off reverse feed and one in off battery feed so I could switch it to come on with reverse, off or on regardless.

Cheers Chris, really helfpul response! :D
Thanks,
Nick

There a spare live ... behind the lamp cluster ( towing socket ) on the the o/s unit , get a work lamp with a switch and tricky wiring not needed...

Jas is quite right. (Hi Jason)
It depends on how invasive you want to be. The lamp cluster and trailer wiring travels along the head liner on the drivers side, and then down the D pillar, and out for the rear light cluster. You can tap it anywhere. Either split the loom inside the vehicle, or tap it at the rear light cluster, take it inside the vehicle for a switch, then back out again. The choice is yours.
If you don't want to use the feed for anyting else, pull the wire out the loom, put a switch inside the vehicle. Use the same wire as the switched feed to the light.
