Bobtailing my RRC

Been thinking about making the cut on my Range and bobtailing it.

has anyone got any good websites they can point me to that gives a good guide on how to do it???

Your going to get alot of people tell you about iva and sva

Me on the other hand have bobbed 3 classics now each better than the first if you do it propperly and want to put it back onthe road the iva isn't hard to pass

Not bothered about SVA the MOT runs out Feb and from then on it's going to be purely an offroader and trailered to events  :dance: way I see it tax & insurance for a year and getting it through another MOT aint' worth it, I only use it on play days, so am buying a trailer instead!

Keep an eye on your weight restrictions ie. tow car and trailer gross weight  ;)

I think when I finally get mine finished it will be a couple of years before I go this route but  I love the look of the bobbed Rangie  :D :D

A 2-door RRC bobtailed and stripped out can be around 15-1600kg empty without fuel, a 4-door on the other hand could be around 2,000kg unless you put it on a diet.

The 2 extra doors add up to 200kg, plus all the sound insulation, airconn and other toys made the later RRC a bit of a fatty.

the bobtail itself isnt that hard the hardest bit is getting the roof to line up as they dont and requires bracketry to make good why so many people make pickups out of them as its alot easier

also deciding what fuel tank to use and how to mount it i fut an alloy one under mine which had to be custom made also i have a 90l lpg tank in the boot

get yourself some 3-5 mm plate to reinforce the chassis once cut to be able to plate it back together

we have done 2 now that even lets you keep your sunroof which is a nice touch if you have one
