235 85 16 mt fitting on discovery

I have bought some 235 85 16 mt fitted to modular rims.I have stock hight heavy duty springs fitted with gas shocks.
After reading various tyre fitting guides, making out you can fit them by a cammel cut adjusting lock stops ect.
At the back they seem to fit ok just the usual cutting of the arches.But at the front the wheels are close to the front bumper not a problem as I have a winch bumper to go on.
But the wheels are close to the rear of the front arch and my rock sliders.So my options are fit bigger springs or spring spacers.
If I fit larger spring do I need to fit longer shocks?and do I need to fit caster correction arms etc?
Or the other hand do I cut the body work?
Opinions would be welcome or if any on has any pics of them fitted and what mods they have had to do will help me.

i had same size on my disco you need 2" lift and cut the arches

you can have standard shocks with 2" springs  bearmach 40mm hd lift  springs would be enough, trailing arms etc are ok standard

i have lifted my one to 3" on 265 75 16  got shock droppers on rear and crancked trailing arms, still rides all over the place not good on the road but makes driving to work more fun

i have 265/75/16 on at the mo,i have a 2" spacer and had to cut the rear arch but not the fronts and i have rock sliders ,im about to put 235/80/16 on mine(i had one of these as a spare and seemed ok )

Thanks for the replies.I was thinking about spring spacers as my springs and shocks are about three months old.
What are the pros and cons of spring spacers?

Just to cause confusion (given that others reckon you may need to lift AND cut...), mine has 235/85/16's ona 2" lift with no cutting at all of bodywork.

You can run standard shocks - mine are +2", standard should be OK but may not last as long owing to the piston going to max travel on full droop/ compression.

Mine only rubs on the inner arches at absolute full deflection.

You will need to turn the steering stops out slightly.

Other than that, they fill the arches nicely!

The pros of spring spacers are they are a cheap alternative to longer springs.
The only con is if your springs are sagging a spacers wont help much.

I fitted a set of 235/85/16 insa turbos to mine last week, i have a 2 inch lift and i needed to trim the rear arch by around 2 inches, i think i need to go a touch more as i can hear them touching slightly on full articulation.  I don't have rock sliders on mine, i have the plastic original things and it does catch on the front a touch when cornering and going over a large bump.  I was going to start chopping but decided to get some rock sliders made instead. :)

I have always found that lifted land rovers are a hell of a lot more hassle than just a set of springs . there are more than enough treads on that on here ( all done id think its about £1000.

In my humble opinion spend the money on a arch kit , or just cut them up to the first lip.

there are loads of discos running on 235/85 with out a lift, just trimmed arches.

I'd agree. I've had a set of Wizard's 40mm spacers on my RRC from 02-07 and on my Disco from 07-09.

Bit concenred no one has mentioned longer brake hoses with either longer springs or spring spacers. They are a must. Otherwise... first time you drop a wheel in a big hole... and suddenly you find yourself with no brakes as the flexi hose has been ripped off.

I have 235/85's with a 2" lift... but camel cutr didn't help when on extreme articulation.

On the up side... I now know how far back to cut!
