Insuring a 101?

I am on the verge of buying this:

I'm not sure whether my insurance company will be able to cope with the idea of a 30-year-old ex-military vehicle with a V8 engine, an extra axle & about 6 feet of extra length, not to mention the gas conversion.

Can anybody recommend an insurance company who would want to help me out with this?  I'll troll through the usual suspects in LRO but any insight welcome, as this is my first foray into this type of vehicle  :lol:

What about whoever currently insures it for the person who owns it?, the company will have a knowledge of it & the work involved/componants utilised.

The person I'm buying it off is trade, so has it on a company insurance policy IIRC.  However, I'll try to get in touch with the previous owner (who I know of through somebody else) - good suggestion.

Hey they take all sorts on camper insurance from atic trucks with trailers through rigid trucks, I'm sure they would take one of those somewhere in the list :wink:

when at billing me and my dad was asking about them and most of them that had one said they had to insure as a camper ask on there club as they were helpfull in person that purple one gets everywere i wonderd what was coming down the lane when i heard it and my dads still dreaming of haveing one :lol:

Personally I'm thinking of starting a trader's policy anyway, but then I'm already self-employed.

When I had mine they were really easy to get, not quite so now. And a lot more expensive than they used to be.

Roadsure deal with a lot of military and classic vehicles and will have insured much stranger vehicles than yours.
If you don't intend using it every day you can cut the premiums right back with a limited mileage policy  My landy costs less than £100 fully comp, without using my no claims bonus, and that includes 9 passengers, public liability and more.

Try not to get this one stuck in a ditch!   :D

Dunno if they'd do a 101 but I just got the 110 insured with Lancaster, fully comp all trimmings for 150 less than my previous lot!

It's partly because of Martyn I'm buying it - I've been in touch with him online for a while now, and he first drew it to my attention.  I liked it at the time, so it was hard to resist when it came up.

Adrian Flux have been the best so far.  Lancaster didn't want to know because of the modifications, like some others I've spoken to.  I'm trying Roadsure now.

Bloody insurance, it's always such a pain...

It'll have to be a sizeable ditch...  Disappointingly, the winch has been removed, and I think it will be a lump to recover if I bog it in.

I'm interested to know the weight, as the AA won't recover it if it's over 2300KG on my existing membership.  I think I'll have to stick it on a weighbridge.  I suspect over 2300KG though!

Wingnut, I notice you're only down the road from me, so if you fancy meeting up, let me know.  In fact, if you know any sizeable green lanes, we could go for a drive when I get the 101...

Join the caravan club and get it on one of their motorhome policies.  Pretty cheap and they will recover right up to about 7 tonnes.

Don't know any lanes you could fit that down! Love to have a drive in it though. If you get it in the next two weeks why not take it to the World Record Attempt up at Towcester?

We've met up before. We were both out with Lanerovers earlier this year.
