200tdi
« on: August 27, 2009, 23:18:00 »
had to recover my m8 tonight after his disco1 200tdi stopped runnin
he said there was a little sort of bang and the oil light came on the the engine died
had a quick look on the side of the road
its not dumped any oil on the floor there is oil in the engine,it will turn over but wont even try to start

does the fuel pump run via a belt that also runs the oil pump?

any ideas wud be great as we need to try and get it running tomoz so he can use it the weekend

thanx simon

Sounds like the timing belt has snapped - take the oil filler cap off and see if the rockers are moving while the engine is being cranked - if they're not moving it's the belt.

Nope more than likely 2 or 3 push rods are bent which are cheap and just the cost of the 'T' belt kit if done by your self it can be fix for around £50-60  ;)
we would do it for around £110 inc lab.

well it only takes me around an 1hr-1.5hr to do that type of job but i have done it many times before. if it's the belt it's still quicker to replace the push rods and the belt than changing the engine....... why change an engine when it's an easy fix??

if at anytime when you are replacing the parts and want help over the phone please feel free to give us a call as i'm always happy to help where i can ;)

hi Nick
many thanx for the text offer for help

ive since found out the engine was hydroliced (sp) about 12 months ago but was never fixed or changed so think we gonna
gonna swap the lump over as dont  think its worth fixing one in that condition
