Smoky td5

<< < (3/3)

Range Rover Blues:
A grey, acrid smoke is poor timing, our 300TDi does it when the fuel filter is blocked too as that messes up timing and fuel charge.

Injector pushrods, not an expert on these engines but if they are wrong they could effect timing :-k

Also, when were any belts changed?

DogVanMan:
Karloss.. late reply so you may have found out already but you need to check the ecu end of the loom. Go under the drivers seat and find the ecu (Aluminium flat square box, roughly 6" square). Looking down, locate the red multiplug on the right, pull it off and check inside for oil. The cream coloured rubbery plastic insert comes out. Any signs of oil here is from poor injector loom sealing and may cause misfiring.

Remedy by replacing injector loom and cleaning ecu end with brake cleaner or similar.. and then again a couple of times over the next few weeks as it works it's way through the loom by capiliary action.

I hope that helps!
