Waffle boards

inch and a half (38mm) one are sometimes cheapo on fleabay as they are offcuts of decking, the 2 inch (50mm) ones fetch a damn site more so I bought 2 sets of 38mm ones, I could always stack them up for extra strength, but they got nicked anyway.

They're not all they're cracked up to be though, I stopped carrying mine.

You can re-seal the edges with resin, save get horrible glass fibres/dust coming off them, and saves your hands too :)  (though I never got aroudn to resealing mine yet)
The rigs we built at a company I worked for used the fb flooring and all cut edges had to be resealed with resin not only for cosmetics but because the exposed cut can be weakened by weathering (this where rigs to go on north sea oil platforms or into deserts) - or at least that was the customers excuse for their demanded specification.

My waffles came from the flooring company that sells/sold on ebay their offcuts. I managed to get a pair for only £14.00 delivered from them, others where paying £50.00 odd for same thing.
Fine for my Series1 , I cut them down to fit into the tub and got good use out of them for several self recoveries as they where all I had along with the hi-lift and a spade.
They are bit short and thin for the 110 but have used them once in anger for self recovery along with the hi-lift and they did get me out of a dire situation but got the ends chewed up in process --- But hey I would have paid £14.00 x 10 or more if they helped me out just for that one time. Same with the hilift - if I am stuck and alone and looking at a long winter night a price tag of around £50.00 seems awfully cheap price to pay to save my bacon.... and the waffle/hilift combo has saved my bacon several times.

I'll have to get some suitable resin and have a go. They're not too bad at the moment, and I always put gloves on before I handle recovery kit so splinters aren't a problem.

I've not had much cause to use mine as 95% of what I do is greenlaning, where you can nearly always find some handy rocks to fill holes in. We like to leave the trail in better condition than we found it!  :lol:

Remeber that 'all' waffleboards are offcuts of industrial flooring, and are a lot cheaper if you contact the flooring companies directly.

i've a set of the £30 ones from donnington, about 45mm deep 300mm wide and 1200mm long. Take the weight of a LWB trooper no problems.

Most waffle boards on the market are made from the same sheets as industrial flooring. Not to be confused with sand ladders. Industrial flooring comes in various thickness' and surface finish, there so do waffle boards. I'm involved in the Howling wolf challenge events and 90% use the type as sold by LRS (as are mine) They take a lot vof abuse and can hold the weight of a modded Disco. I've never witnessed one break, but the edges do get chewed up with regular use. the quick fix is to simply trim the damage of. Price varies due to availibility, thickness and finish, after that its wether you like the guy selling or not - simple. I havn't found a manufacturer who makes 'waffles' just for the 4x4 market yet - despite trying. There simply isn't enough demand to justify it.
