Dont know what?
« on: May 28, 2009, 18:10:21 »
Just pulled into a service station at home and sommat weird happened.  We heard a clunk and the car wouldnt move.  It was stuck in 2nd gear and i had to really hit it to get it out.  Put it in first and moved off needing loads of revs, like something was holding it back.  Stopped, had a look in the services but couldnt see owt, but it drove fine after that?

I just got it back today after 2-3 weeks of not using it, it was being done for mot.  Gearbox was very tight when i took it back, drove to wales and back today, and then it did this, weird thing is gearstick isnt tight anymore, its moving quite nicely between the gears?

Anyone have any ideas?

could the clutch not be releasing all the way ie. the thrust bearing sticking on the shaft or the fork slipping off the little ball it sits on . when mine was on the way out it was very hard to get it in and out of gear as the clutch wouldn't release  and the clutch did slip now and again when pulling off . the fork had rusted through a little and the plasic bit on the shaft had colapsed...

Goes into gear fine, or at least it does now, it was a bit stiff going in before the clunk noise, but since then no bother at all!

When i say stiff, i mean it was still going in fine, it was the whole movement of the gearbox that was stiff!

Just moved it down the road and the gearbox is nice and loose now, not loose in a bad way lol

If I sit on the motorway for a couple of hours at 60/70 in one gear then mine gets stiff but if you rest it for 5 mins at the sevices it's fine for another couple .

don't know why maybe it's the gears getting hot ...

Could have just been that, cos it was the end of the dual carriageway where the town starts.

Going to check the gearbox oil tomorrow and see if i can learn how to replace that lol
