Electrical Fault Finding
« on: May 25, 2009, 16:11:55 »
Over the past week me 110 has been developing some problems with the electrical system!

It would appear the following items dont work now!  Inidicators (hazards work fine so have ruled out bulbs), rear lights (brake lights work, just on normal the lights dont work), fuel guage, temp guage!

Now a fuse blew but i changed it and nothing has come back on?

At the moment this is the only car available to me to drive, so i would like to get it fixed asap as the Discovery is in having its mot until Thursday.

ATB

Sounds like an earth problem to me had virtually the same on the RR, no indicators, no instruments etc, eventually found the main earth under the dash was loose, once tightened and cleaned away we go again.

Just had daughters RR here with a non starting issue, glow plugs got no power, so after fiddling cleaning we put another earth strap on the engine and everything works fine !!

Quick thought, is the fuse box earthed?  As it would make sense that alot of the problems are coming from there.

Isn't the whole body an earth... ie: I have sent the earth for the light bar to the screw which fixes the fuse board the body.

LOL sorry, i meant does it have its own earth, i.e. does it have earths for each fuse, or just one for the fuse box.

Don't think the fuse box will earth separately , but I bet there are some earths under the dash, look for a bunch of black wires with a connection to the body normally a good old self tapper or a bolt.

Aah the dreaded glass fuse box .............................. I spent ages cleaning every holder and carefully closing them up so the fuse fitted tightly on my old 110 then everything worked as it should, but the earths under the dash needed cleaning as well mine had gone rusty under the drivers side where it attached to the body.

Then of course the rear light earths are a law unto themselves as well !!
