getting itchy feet already!
« on: May 20, 2009, 17:18:59 »
Now I have my ranger and selling the disco and rover I am getting itchy feet for a 4x4 that will be better than the ranger and my love is series 3's.

I have found one on that dreaded ebay!!! I have got an insurance quote for £110 with Adrian flux valid up to 21st June which I was nicely suprised about. Well, confused.com said £111 Adrian Flux said £230 then came back with £110

So what do you all reckon to this one?

I am guessing the fact it has a defender dash doesnt mean it will be too high on the points system and illegaly being a tax exempt? I think it looks good. A long way to view though. about 200 miles away. eek!

Just thinking at the mo and know not many s3 tax exempts come about.

will the colour on the log book be a worry either?

It looks like the numberplates must of been switched, as it looks like a Series 3, but the number plates are for a 2a.

^^^whs, it looks like an id swap chap, hence very little bidding.

There are a few series 2's with series 3 dashes and bulkheads due to these being cheaper than and more available than good series 2 bulkheads, but this looks to be just a plates and von plate swap mate.

Can't view eblag at work, but try Footman James for Insurance.  I paid £165 for my 88" and my 109" on the same policy, had had an accident within 3 years too.  It's unlimited mileage with free european breakdown cover thrown in.

Year of manufacture 1967. It's a series 2a, with series 3 front end.
Colour doesn't matter. Just enter a change on the docs when you register it. I just bought a blue series 2a that had red on the log book, new one came back as blue.
Find out if the owner has any paperwork for it from manufacture to first registration. It's not unknown for accident damaged write offs from that time to be reregistered after a rebuild.

It's a bit pricey.  You should be able to get one a galvanized chassis for that money

I'd say that one is fine.

The Series III came out in 1971 and this example still has the number plate on the drivers side (as the IIa did) whereas the later ones were moved to the nearside.

It is a very clean and tidy example of a Landy this age. I think they are asking too much for it though unless it is in concours condition, which it isn't quite.

I got my first Landy about four years ago.

Went down on my motorbike to go and view it and the guy liked my bike so much that we ended up just doing a straight swap.

My wife had put an absolute ban on me taking any of our kids on the back of it and having five meant that we needed a large vehicle to get us all in.

The fact that I've been into Landies since I was about ten is just a bonus.

Now that one looks a very good one.

I honestly don't know what it's likely to fetch though.

Depends how many peeps are interested really!

Some have been going a bit silly recently, so I'd guess between £1000-£1500

Its a ringer mate. If its a 2a it shud not have  a heater intake on the n/s wing. 2a with the lights in the wings only ran 1969-71. Before 69 the lights were in the grill. After 71 the s3 had the later bulk head and updated heater ie what ur lookin at. In 1967 that heater wasnt even desighed!!!!!!!!!! Buy it cheap or not at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this seems such a mine field to get a honest s2a/3  :'(

there is one in the for sale section of here that needs finishing and local to me. I am worried about it loosing it's exemption though from a new engine and maybe chassis etc. what are the ruels about all this as I know it goes on some sort of points chart?

Def a series3, door hinges are wrong, heater vent is wrong, lights, grill etc.

If it was examined by someone who knew their stuff then it would need SVA and lose tax exemption I think.
