Power Steering
« on: April 16, 2009, 16:14:09 »
A fiend of mine has just got an A plate Series.

He wants to fit power steering from a 300tdi defender to it.

Any ideas, pointers?

Well, the 1st point to make is, to run a power steering system, you need a power steering pump!

On most landrovers they are engine driven from the belts. So he will need to sort that out.

Second one is to source a power steering box, and somewhere to fit it! Then source a suitable drop arm as the standard one wouldn't do it!

There was a kit that Chris Perfect used to sell, but he is no longer trading, there was also a kit fitted to one of the armoured landy's that were out in Northern Ireland but i've never heard of one for sale!

Its not a simple job.

IIRC the steering box on a series is on the pedal box and runs a drag link forewards to the relay arm, this in turn pulls the front drag link to the knuckle and then the track rod.

So fitting a Defender PAS box to a series is no mean feat, the RRC stuyle steering box is situated roughly where the relay arm sits, you would have to graft in the whol if the bottom end of the Defender steering column too wouldn't you :?
