Another one for BTM!
« on: April 11, 2009, 16:39:48 »
Just been to a 1st birthday celebration of one of my trade customers. Although he deals mainly with Mini's, this is his own toy and work in progress.....

Thanks Steve

The 69's one of my all time favourite motors

Big aren't they :D

And, what's under the hood?

Surely not a 426 'Hemi'!?, a 'Magnum'??, or the 'cooking' 383?

Here you go Richard.... It's a 440. Is that the Magnum?

Despite the size of the engine it looks lost in there. The car is huge!
It was a 318 when he bought it, so I'm told.
As you can see, there are still a few bits to bolt on.... look at the bulkhead!

Sure is, having, as you can possibly guessed, gained the nick-name from the calibre of the Smith & Wesson hand-gun; as famously used in the 'Dirty Harry' movies*

Despite the size of the engine it looks lost in there. The car is huge!

I said they were big

They've got a 117" wheelbase!, & are over 17 feet long!! (a 110 is about 16ft 4inch!!)

But with 390 BHP (SAE ratings), they're fairly quick - think Porsche 928S rivalling performance.

Its cousin, the Plymouth Superbird, was supposedly the first production car to break 200MPH in NASCAR racing, but they used the 426 'Hemi', with 425BHP, not the 'Magnum'

Warning!, BTM Digression

Harrys famous "Do I feel lucky?" line was para-phrased, by Captain Vimes in Pratchetts 'Guards Guards' novel

"I know what you're thinking: 'Did he fire six shots or only five?'
But to tell you the truth, in all this excitement I've kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off
You've got to ask yourself one question: 'Do I feel lucky?' Well, do ya, punk?"
