changing number plates
muddyjames:
I would like to keep the number plate from my rover and put it on my new car. anyone know if this is possible to do and how easy it is and how much?
Saffy:
You can do so, and you can transfer/retain the reg onto paper only, but there are criteria to be met (both vehicles must exist, have tax, the reg must be transferable so check v5). Your old truck should then be issued an aged related plate by the DVLA which will not be transferable in the future. (that why you need to check on your v5 to make sure this hasn't been done before). Best way is to get info from the DVLA themselves, you'll need to get the forms from them anyway (V317 or V778/1 ?). Also any website that trades in numbers plates will have an excellent FAQ page which will give all the required details, for instance :

WARNING.
I applied to transfer the number from my Series 1 to my Disco (sorry purists!) to get a cheap dateless plate. Both vehicles had to be inspected a DVLA Portsmouth. When inspecting the Series 1, the chassis number could not be identified as a welded patch had been done. I was given 30 days to prove its identity or get a Q plate. I spent hours & hours uncovering axle numbers, researching numbers/dates, etc before I was granted the number.
Check that all numbers recorded on the V5 are visible - Before you go for the inspection.
