tyres again!

Im sure ill get told this gets asked all the time, but her we go.

A mate has a standard rrc, and has been offered bfg at's, 275/70r16's v-cheep

They seam an odd size, but has anybody an idea what he would have to do to fit them?
eg. would he get away with just trimming the arches? or will he need a lift.

Depends how much he wants to trim the arches. Some suspension modefication may be more practical, though not necisserily lifting it. Stiffer standard ride height springs with extended bumpstops  would help limit the upwards movement of the tyres.

The wheel offset will also have an effect. On standard offset wheels the steering limit stops need adjusting to prevent rubbing on the radius arms. If you increased the offset enough to retain the same steering lock then the tyres will be offset so much that the catch the outer wheel arch rather than fitting up in the cavity between inner and outer wheel arches.
