What happens if I don't renew my 86" MOT and then don't use it on the road?
 
The reason is, my MOT is due at the start of a two week holiday and I'd like the two weeks to do some work prior to the MOT.
 
Do I have to SORN it?

As long as your tax (I know it's free, but you still have to get the disc) is not due, and as long as you book the test after doing the work, you are safe.

Yep, what Sider said, the SORN is linked to the Road Tax not the MOT
