Select neutral fault warning
« on: March 24, 2009, 20:20:58 »
Can anyone help, my p38 has just started to display a 'select neutral' warning & 'slow down'. This first started shortly after a smell of burning whilst motoring. I have read that the control box is located under the  passenger seat, is this the ECU which also controls the air suspension? I will remove and shake this box tomorrow to find out if it has blown or can anyone help me to repair whatever the fault is.
Thanks in anticipation.

First action might be to check transmission oil level ...

Thanks the oil level is ok. I have investigated the ecu beneath the passenger seat and found it to be well burnt so I have replaced it but I am still getting the select neutral warning and cannot engage low ratio !! I found a thread suggesting that the electric motor that controls the transfer box might be stuck so tomorrow I am going to tap it with a hammer. Hopefully that will put it right.
Does anyone have any ideas?
