range rover p38 engine change

i am thinking of buying a p38 range rover but i see alot of problems with the engine and overheating

question 1
i am looking for a 4 llitre but if its got problems i have a good 3.9 v8 in my shed could i just change the engines over ?????

yes i cant see why not the engine are the same still

my dads has never had any problems with overheating????

Yesm the 3.9 and 4.0 are nomially the same engine but the 4.0 is cross bolted and has bigger crank journals, the crank driven oil pump and runs on thinner oil.  No reason at all why you shouldn't stick a 3.9 in and with a little effort the front end of the 4.0 fits the 3.9 anyway giving you the better oil pump.
