wheel wobble
« on: February 17, 2009, 10:41:29 »
I think i broke my terrano  i took my baby up the lanes and hit a few ruts quite hard as i get over excited  but since that day my steering wheel wobbles and at time i have to fight it from pulling to the left, any ideas of what it could be i cant see anything that is visable i been told the likely result is either tracking or wheel balancing what you guys reckon thanks

Rod ends - particularly those on the drag link - is yours lifted? it makes em more suceptible to drag link issues.

Think i broke my terraro too! same thing as well only it was in a field. at over 55mph the steering wheel shakes violently and there's a sort of knocking noise. been underneath but nothing is bent or loose so i haven't got a clue! Garage call soon i think.

lock stops - just grease them up a bit.

Dumb question whats a lock stop lol i been told it could either be ball joint or anti-roll bar rubbers, i had wheels check and rebalanced so def not them

If you have a look at your bottom suspension arms you will see a plate sticking upwards & on the back of the hub you'll see two bolts often with the remains of a plastic cap squashed on them if you grease both of these it'll stop it squeaking on full lock ;)The lockstop caps are around £3 each (4 will be needed & there is 3 different types) but mine have only lasted just over a year :roll:so when they sqeak/grind the grease comes out :P

Like wat he said.

Personally I never bother, its not good for the steering to hold it hard against the stops anyway, always full lock and then relax, barely effects your turning circle but you avaoid all these problems.

It could poss be the rim but I would think the prob will be the tyre as i've come across a few where the tread has started to pull away from the cords. Either would have shown up on a wheel balancer
