cant work it out !
range17:
Hi can anyone tell or show me with a picture, if there is anything between the top pipe that fits onto the oil filter housing and the housing its self ,really strange because its the last thing that i have to fit after the engine refit ,but the pipe is to long to let the union start its thread ,i have no parts left to fit .
Cheers Rob.

Do you mean the top oil cooler pipe? On the disco 200tdi I just fitted into my 110 there is nothing. There is the pipe that is flared and the nut that slides over it. It was an absolyte pig to start though. Had to get the angle just right for the threads, took me a good few minutes to get it started before I could get a spanner on it....

Yes the top pipe ,i cant understand it because the flaired pipe will not go in far enough to start the nut ,dont know whats going on ,its stoping me from running the engine after rebuild

Are you sure it wont go in far enough or is it possible you havent got the angle quite right? It really did take me forever to get it started on the threads... There is nothing else there I dont think.
One thing I did notice on mine is that when the bottom one is tight its flush up against the housing, the top on there is a few mm gap, it doesnt leak so must be right. I fitted a disco 200tdi into a 2.5 petrol 110 with no oil cooler pipes. I bought some new ones and nearly gave up getting it started because I was convinced I must have got the wrong pipe. Me and a mate took it in turns to fiddle and it started eventualy. I would try again because if its as awkward as mine was you might find you get it on eventualy!

Some of these pipes have an adaptor screwed in to the filter housing, quite similar to the rad end, but, they are very difficult to source. I have just had a similar problem when re engining my RR I bought a new filter head to match the new pipes I needed, somewhere along the line LR have changed the fittings not sure when but the pipes are differently threaded.
