sorry, but need to
« on: February 09, 2009, 20:54:56 »
vent my disappointment with a Forum Member..Just before Xmas i brought a rebuilt 300tdi engine, without turbo/manifold, starter motor or alternator...Just the basic...Said engine had had 100'rds spent on it and built up from the bottom end..."less 5'ooomiles old" the ad said...Great i thought, just what i want, i'll use my stuff off the lump taking out and in she goes...Well with Xmas and stuff, i only managed to fit it last weekend, waiting for some new parts., RAD/INTERCOOLER, WATER PUMP, few gaskets, bit for the gearbox, new clutch fork, spigot bearing ,thurst bearing Heavy duty plate n cover...So all these fitted and put on, oh yeah, forgot, one of the studs holding the pulley cover had snapped off in the head, so had to drill and re thread that..left as it was on the head, good job i took it off to do water pump...Anyhow, fitted the engine back in the landy, topped all the waters up, the oil in engine, rebled the clutch and fuel system.....put the key in and she fires up first time...GREAT i thought...then just moved the throttle a little , loads of white smoke and erendous tapping noise from the block...smoke eevrywhere..clouds of it, WHITE...So turn her off and have a look round....Everything sound, start again, still the same sound if worse..off again.. Then looking down on to my drive oil , pouring out...Get underneath, the sump as only 4 outta the 16/17 holding it on..So the one are pinched out me old block and used for this one....Fill her back up with oil and leave her for the night. Sorted  the timing out, thinking it migt be that what causing the knocking, it was out a bit, not much...Then started her up again, fingers crossed...........No bloody chance.........worse,no smoke just a really bad knockin noise on slight throttle, can also be heard on tick over...similar sound to a machine gun been shot in a oil drum.....BOTTOM END...Tried ringing the bloke pm'in him emailing him, texting him......not a dicky bird...i spent the best part of £400 buying it, and spending same again on new parts so the bloody thing would'nt need doing for years, and i've now got a shagged engine and me car just sitting there...which i need for work....IWANT TO NAME THIS FORUM MEMBER...but i will be going to seek legal advice before i do...So if you do read this ........GET IN TOUCH....BEFORE IT GETS NASTY [-X

i had a similar thing but reversed, i bought a 200tdi to break as i needed some bits and its was cheap, ( no mot )  i striped it down then sold the engine for £100 near complete with box etc, i no it drove spot on as the guy deliverd it and i took him back to his house, ran very nice no smoke as i was following it.
anyway bout 8/9 months later the guy phoned me with a right strop on, and demanded his money back, i said no, but he explaind hed left it in the car in the yard, then fitted it. but i remember taking  few things off the engine ready to sell, but left them in the car for him, and no bonnet on the shell, so anything could of got in the water or oil system,

so you can get dodgey sellers and dodgey buyer,
so always try and be carefull and see it running for your self

You should never trust anyone when buying items on forums no more than you would trust an unknown person on Ebay.

At least with ebay you get feedback that may give a clue to how trustworthy they are....

I bought a hi lift off another member, went very smooth and we were both happy with the deal maybe we could do a forum trader score or something....

Had the same happen to me from a sale off fleabay, £400 for the engine and £300 to have it fitted, smoke everywhere piston slap waste of time luckily for me a very kind friend gave me a nice 3.5efi to go in and he had the old engine to rebuild as it had high lift cam polished port etc.

but trust me i still have the advert i still have the name and i will one come face to face with him and let him know my thoughts  [-X

Ade, bell me Friday I will try to get over as discussed unless the lump is out.

Unfortunately I decided to wedge a piece of metal in to my finger and have got to go to the hospital tomorrow and maybe opp on Thursday, thats after spending 5 hours in A&E yesterday and 3 hours in day procedure clinic today to be told that I would have to come back tomorrow as they were too busy- NHS is on its Ass, so have gone private. PM me your mobile number.

On some other forum I am on they have a trader rating and also you have to be a member for 3 months and have over 50 posts before you can sell stuff it stops people signing up and sell a load of rubbish and then disapearing might be an idea to do that on here.
Thanks,
