Any tips for removing RRC floor panel?
« on: January 25, 2009, 22:29:39 »
I'm breaking a 1987 classic as part of a hybrid project I'm doing, and after a day of breaking i've removed pretty much everything inside, now just want to expose the gearbox for removal up through the floor. Any one got any tips/advice on how to remove the floor panel or gearbox tunnel as it looks like a fairly large one piece pressed metal sheet, rather than the many panels of a series 3 gearbox tunnel which i'm used to.
Its not in great nick so worst comes to the worst i'll cut it out but i'd rather not.
And the Haynes manual is useless for this, it basically says 'remove the securing bolts' but i can't find them!

Any help much appreciated.

unfortunatly they drop out the bottom and not out the top, there is a small panel on the top of the tunnel, that comes off but not enough room to get a Gearbox through, the only way to take it out the top you will have to cut the tunnel out,

The haynes manual is written for the original 4-speed RRC which did have a removable floor, if you check the suppliment it shows the gearbox comes out of the bottom.

Decide where you want the joint in the floor and cut it out.

Took the grinder with a cutting disc in it to daughters when we took that to bits, far easier than grovelling about underneath.
