Disco II V8 CONVERTING TO A 300TDI

Craig, if the D2 ECU is anything like the P38, then pretty much every function on the car (be it indicators, headlights, heaters, electric windows and mirrors etc.) will operate through or from the central ECU.  In appearance it may be similar to the 300 Series, but underneath it is a completely different vehicle.

ive never stripped one down but knowin land rover your right as it makes it more complicated to have just 1 ecu that does it all then a few seperate ones :P

I wasnt planning on doing it myself  :oops:. Have spoken to MRM about it, it was them who sugested it to me as an option I could consider.  Im just tryin to work out how much it would cost at the moment.  Its an automatic at the moment, but I would go to a manual.  I was told I would need a complete 300 tdi as a doner car and they would swop everything over.

Any idea how much I would get for the engine and auto box?

Ive been advised that the td5 would not be a good route to go as there still over complicated.  Swapping to the tdi was to eliminate any problems with off raoding in wet muddy condiotions and wading through deep water?!

Im still not sure if it the right thing todo as the car drives so smoth at the moment, and am worried it mite make it a little bit like a tractor  :-o  But then if it solves the issues with getting wet maybe it is the right way to go  :|

Has no one done this before?

the money its gonna cost ya id buy an old 300 tdi an just use an abuse it off road an get the v8 fixed as my v8 is the family car as i can hear the passengers an as u say is so smooth an responsive unlike my moms 300 but its how deep ya pockets are but just think if u put a 300 in a d2 then the valve of car dramatically drops  but as i say fix the v8 an buy an old disco to abuse will be cheaper an u know it makes sense y abuse a nice disco off road when u can pick em up now dirt cheap

I see what your saying, its things which im trying to weigh up. depends on how much the engine and box are worth which I have got at the moment.

Do you think it would devalue the car then?  I wasnt to sure?  It would make it more ideal to some people surley?!
