Disco II V8 CONVERTING TO A 300TDI
weenie:
Hi there,
Was wondering if anyone could tell me if anyone has gone from the 4ltr V8 in the Series II Discovery to the old 300 tdi. My V8 is burning oil at the moment so is looking like the piston rings may have worn. Im thinking of converting to a 300tdi instead of bothering to fix the current V8.
My reason to this is to get rid of the problems with the V8 getting wet wen off roading and causing problems.
Any advice on this would be great,
Thanks,
Ed :-k

is it manual or auto if its manual i think 300 should mate upto gearbox or u may have to change bell housing an re weld engine mounts on chassis just out of intrest if u do rip engine out how much u lookin for it if i come give a hand removin it cheers

I wouldn't imagine the central ECU would be too pleased about the absence of the engine management system...

I was pondering this the other day and the conclusion i came to was the same as rich p,but i have never worked on a disco 2,I suppose that it could be done if you ripped everything out and replaced it with everything from the 300 tdi but thats major work and you would have to buy a complete 300 for the looms etc,and to be honest thats way out of my league.

what wiring would u need for a 300 tdi to run a ignition live for the stop start solinoid (sp) a wire for oil light a wire for temp guage an wires from alt to battery an starter motor so therotically u could just rip out all the v8 wiring loom an ecu as u wouldnt need it but wouldnt it be better to use a td5 instead of a 300
