Number plate

(1/2) > >>

hairyasswelder:
I know the letter font size and spacing are legally defined BUT...... can I chop the sides off as I have a 5 digit plate and am trying to fabricate a winch bumper and have run out of room

I need to crop about 2" off each side which would still leave a border and fit on my bumper  ;)

J.D.:
I would think so mate, the rear numberplate on a Rover 200 (I think its a 200) is an odd size and they are legal, so I would think so.

carbore:
I think there is a minimum size required between the edge of the number/letters and end of the plate. Therefore a minimum plate size but not maximum (or if there is is a big one plate size) You may be thinking of the Rover 75 with the big rear plate.

JumboBeef:
I *think* the law is only really tight on post-2001 motors, so if you are before this, I wouldn't worry.

My 1991 Defender has a six digit reg and I cut down the front plate to fit a winch bumper more than four years ago, and so far, no problems!

(this is an old photo from about 2005).

At least your thinking of having one not like other folk.
