28th of the Month you can tax it to start the beginning of the next month, or at least thats what she says in the post office when i buy untaxed cars!

Yup

Actually, I'll correct myself: you don't need to take the MOT with you any more because it is all on the computer.

The post office dont have access to the computter..... you need the mot ;) you were right first time :-#
Ask me how I know
If you tax online you get 5 days allowed for postage where you dont have to display the disc, but as said, the disc is sent to the current registered keeper
JumboBeef:
How do you know? :D
I taxed my Disco a couple of weeks ago, and I asked them (main PO in my local town) and they told me I didn't need to produce the actual MOT as it was all on computer......................

Well as you ask...... ;)
Went to Dudley after christmas to see Jess mum & dad, took money, mot and reminder to tax the van........ forgot insurance  so enquired if I could still tax it with them using computer........ no, we dont have access.
Another person in the queue had got the emissions readout instead of the mot and were told the same... NO.....
Rang DVLA and they say OK, when I queery the displaying disc laws they tell me that there has been an ammendment to allow 5 days for postage with exemption from having to display. Good job as i was 70 miles from home on New Years Eve [-o<
