changing the pistons

wile changing the head i noticed i have 2 cracked pistons can anybody tell me the efects of this and can i change them whithout removing the engine? are there any pitfalls i kneed to know?

if its a 19j engine its a common thing cracked pistons u can change pistons while engine is in but u will have to remove sump an the head an cracked pistons will cause low compression so poor power an poor startin

Cracked pistons are usually caused by heat stress, which is common on the TD engines. You drain the oil and remove the sump, then remove the big end cap nuts and push the piston/conrod assembly up the bore. Piston kits are approximately £40 each and come with rings already fitted, piston pin, and circlips. Big end caps are matched to their respective conrods, so make sure you keep them in order.
