Rangey's goosed
« on: December 01, 2008, 10:03:36 »
Hi Folks, how are you all doin' ?

Got a major problem with the ole Rangey, and I'm totally flummoxed by it.
I put new spark plugs into the V8 and took the motor for a test run, everything went well, vehicle purring along fine.

One of the lads helping to revamp my motor, was asked to connect up a cab light, and willingly did so, as he is a competent electrician. Since then my vehicle has not wanted to start???

I have changed the old coil for new, my mate Dave has made one disy out of my old one and one he had spare, to no avail.

We have listened to ideas of fuel starvation, so we have checked the jets, oiled them up, and replaced the old diaphragms on the carbys, and still no joy.

We're running out of ideas, so if anyone can shine a light on the problem, It'd be most appreciative.

Cheers lads and lasses, and have a Merry Christmas.

Take the light out?

If it turns over then obviously it's either fuel or spark.  Drop fuel into the inlet or use some easy start, if it coughs then you have a spark, if not then check the ignition.

Check the ignition with the good old spare spark plug.

Then check the timing

Check the ignition mudule is getting 12 volts during cranking too, mine won't start if the battery is a bit flat unless I bump start it. Check there isn't a anti run-on system that's been disconnected, check the coil is still live during cranking.

If it went that quick then either it's something really dumb and you'll kick yourself or summat broke :(

Cheers RRB
Did the Easy start trick, and yes it wanted to start, but didn't quite manage.

There you go, it's fuel.  Does your have any anti-run on valves? the weaken the mix to prevent the engine runing on when the ignition is killed, or a fule shut off valve? the only electrickery I can think of on a carb'ed engine.  Otherwise it could be fuel pump problem, or totally unrelated fuel problem.

Another to try is a jerry can of fuel and a new length of fuel hose down to it, or even to have a bottle of fuel above the engine feeding straight into the carbs and bypass the fuel lift pump too.
